What we test

Our engineers attend your premises and carry out BS 7976-2 / BS EN 16165 pendulum testing at specific locations you specify (or at locations we identify during a walk-around risk assessment). Each test area is sampled multiple times to produce a statistically valid PTV value, in both dry and wet (contaminated) conditions.

How it works

The pendulum instrument is a specific piece of apparatus — originally developed in the 1940s — that simulates the action of a heel striking the floor. It produces a numerical Pendulum Test Value (PTV) from 0 to 150. The HSE and UK Slip Resistance Group use PTV thresholds: 36+ is low slip potential (safe), 25–35 is moderate, below 25 is high slip potential.

What you receive

A full UKAS-accredited report delivered within 48 hours of the site visit. The report includes: PTV values for every tested area in dry and wet conditions, photographs of each test location, classification against UKSRG thresholds, the method used, environmental conditions, engineer qualifications, and equipment calibration references. The report is suitable for court, insurance, and HSE purposes.

Typical duration

A typical site visit takes between 2 and 6 hours depending on the number of test areas. For a standard retail unit or restaurant with 4–6 test zones, allow half a day. For a multi-floor hotel or hospital, allow a full day. We do not charge by the hour — all quotes are fixed-price.

Out-of-hours attendance

We frequently attend sites outside normal trading hours — early mornings, evenings, or overnight for 24-hour premises. This is particularly useful for busy retail, hospitality, and transport hubs where disruption to customers is unacceptable. Out-of-hours attendance does not carry a surcharge if pre-arranged.
