What UKAS accreditation means, why it matters for your slip testing, and how our Schedule No. 7933 works in practice.
UKAS — the United Kingdom Accreditation Service — is the sole accreditation body recognised by the UK government to assess testing and calibration laboratories. An organisation holding UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation has been formally audited and found competent, impartial, and technically capable. It is not a certification you apply for and receive — it is a multi-month assessment process repeated annually.
Our Schedule No. 7933 specifically covers slip resistance testing to BS 7976 / BS EN 16165 (the pendulum test), EN 13036-4, and related standards. The schedule document details exactly which tests we are accredited for, which equipment is used, and under what conditions.
UK personal injury courts — from the County Court up to the High Court — consistently give greater weight to UKAS-accredited reports. A non-accredited slip test carries significantly less evidential weight. For claims defence, claimant-side investigations, or HSE enforcement proceedings, a UKAS report is the practical standard.
Every major UK insurer accepts UKAS-accredited BS 7976 / BS EN 16165 reports as evidence of due diligence. Some offer premium reductions for businesses with documented annual testing programmes. Facilities management contracts, property warranties, and architect specifications frequently require UKAS-accredited testing explicitly.
UKAS laboratories are prohibited from commercial arrangements that would bias results — such as selling anti-slip treatments, cleaning chemicals, or replacement flooring to the client they are testing for. This prohibition is enforced by annual audit. It means the report reflects what the floor actually does, not what the laboratory is trying to upsell.
UKAS publishes a free, public register of every accredited laboratory in the UK. Our entry is searchable by Schedule Number 7933 at ukas.com. Every report we issue carries the UKAS logo and our schedule number for verification.
We recommend always verifying the UKAS status of any slip testing provider you are considering. Logos can be displayed fraudulently, but the UKAS register cannot be faked.
