Laboratory slip resistance testing of flooring samples
Service detail

Who it is for

Laboratory testing is primarily used by flooring manufacturers, distributors, and architects who need documented PTV data for a specific product before it is installed or specified on a project. Testing before installation is substantially cheaper than testing after — and prevents the far more expensive mistake of installing a product that later fails in-situ testing.

Standards covered

Our Schedule No. 7933 covers: BS 7976-2 / BS EN 16165 (the pendulum test), EN 13036-4 (the European equivalent), DIN 51097 (wet barefoot ramp test — relevant for pools and wet-leisure areas), and DIN 51130 (shod ramp test referral, relevant for industrial R-ratings). We can advise on which standard is relevant to your product and intended application.

Sample requirements

We need a minimum sample size of approximately 30cm × 30cm for pendulum testing. Larger samples are better — particularly for textured or heterogeneous surfaces. Samples should be representative of the product as it will be installed (including any factory-applied finish). We can advise on sample preparation if needed.

Turnaround

Standard laboratory turnaround is 48 hours from receipt of the sample. Rush turnaround (24 hours) is available at a surcharge. We log every sample on arrival, photograph it, and track it through the testing process so you have full visibility.

What the certificate shows

Each certificate includes the product identification, PTV values in dry and wet (and barefoot wet, where relevant), classification against UKSRG and equivalent thresholds, photographs of the sample, the exact method used, and full traceability to UKAS. Certificates are used extensively in product marketing, architect specifications, and tender submissions.
