Slip Testing For
Construction Sites.

From new-build commercial developments to refurbishment projects, UK construction specifications increasingly require documented slip resistance testing. We work with contractors, architects, and building control at every stage — from sample pre-qualification to post-completion handover testing.

Pre-qualification testing

Before specifying a flooring product, architects and contractors can send samples to our UKAS laboratory for certification. This is substantially cheaper than testing after installation — and prevents the expensive mistake of specifying a product that later fails in-situ.

Post-installation verification

Once flooring is laid, on-site pendulum testing verifies that the installed product achieves the specified PTV. Installation errors (wrong adhesive, wrong substrate prep, wrong sealer) can compromise slip resistance even when the product is correct. In-situ testing is the only way to catch this.

Handover documentation

UKAS-accredited slip testing forms part of the handover O&M documentation on many modern UK building contracts. Property owners, facilities managers, and future insurers rely on this baseline data to establish long-term risk management programmes.

Working with contractors

We work routinely with UK main contractors and flooring sub-contractors. Our scheduling is flexible around installation programmes — we can test during installation (for phased handovers), at completion, or during defects periods.

Frequently asked

Questions about slip testing in construction sites

Can you test tile samples before we specify them?

Yes — laboratory pre-testing is by far the most cost-effective approach. Send a sample (minimum 30cm × 30cm) to our UKAS laboratory for BS 7976 / BS EN 16165 certification before final specification.

Do you attend during construction phases?

Yes. We can test at any stage — substrate, post-laying, post-grouting, post-sealing, and at handover. Each stage reveals different PTV information.

Is handover slip testing required by building control?

Not always mandated, but it is increasingly required by UK main contractors, insurers, and facilities management companies as part of O&M handover documentation.
